Consultant Gynaecologist - Angamuthu Arunkalaivanan

Mr. Arunkalaivanan (Arun) is a urogynaecologist specializing in the treatment of pelvic prolapse, urinary incontinence, and advanced pelvic surgery.

Mr.Arun qualified in 1988 from the University of Madras, India and completed MD from the University of Bombay in 1994. He became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists(RCOG), London in 1996. After completing a short tenure in the West Midlands, he entered the Ob/Gyn Specialist Registrar training programme in the Northwest region (Manchester) in 1998. He further specialised in Urogynaecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at Torbay Hospital, Torquay in 2001-02. He is a member of the International Urogynecological Association and the British Society of Urogynaecologists. He has authored and peer reviewed many articles and has presented lectures and scientific research abstracts nationally and internationally. He is an independent advisor for new pharmacotherapy for the National Prescription Agency (NPA) in Urogynaecology.

NHS Practice

Mr. Arun has been appointed as Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist to Birmingham City Hospital, UK and a lead in Urogynaecology & Urodynamics since 2002. Mr. Arun has a broad base of experience in minimally invasive pelvic surgery and advanced technologies for the treatment of prolapse, incontinence, and pelvic pain. His many research interests include new procedures for stress urinary incontinence (Transobturator tape, Zuidex), overactive bladder (Botulinum Toxin-A) & Pelvic floor reconstructive surgery with new technologies and clinical application of urodynamic testing. He organizes training workshops for the new procedures in Urogynaecology. As a honorary senior clinical lecturer for the University of Birmingham, he is actively involved in teaching of medical students, and trainees within the West Midlands. He is currently a RCOG preceptor for Urodynamics and Level II Laparoscopic surgery.
